Lifted: Home Renovation, Buckhorn, Ontario
The objective of this project was to convert the property into a four-season dwelling, increase living space both internally and externally, incorporate basic conveniences like laundry and a dishwasher, and optimize views of the lake.
The project came in exactly on the approved budget, save changes we made along the way. As expected, these changes were scoped, priced and required our approval prior to starting.
A common theme and project for us is when cottagers retire, they often want to either move to a lake house or spend significantly more time there. This lifestyle change does not require sacrificing creature comforts and efficiencies.
The objective of this project was to convert the property into a four-season dwelling, increase living space both internally and externally, incorporate basic conveniences like laundry and a dishwasher, optimize views of the lake, and establish a proper foundation for utilities, storage, and durability.
Our design focused on a comprehensive remodel to meet these goals. An addition was built to create a larger primary suite with an ensuite bathroom and a dedicated deck for enhanced privacy. The kitchen and dining areas were relocated to the lakeside to connect all common spaces and provide lake views. The screened porch was winterized with new windows and features a two-sided fireplace shared with the common areas. The entire cottage was raised, and a new ICF foundation was installed to improve efficiency.
The outcome is a highly inviting property with numerous outdoor and indoor spaces for entertainment and relaxation.
