As passionate gardeners seeking a deeper connection to the source of their sustenance, this home initially failed to provide that experience. Instead of integrating them with the garden, the house isolated them, while also lacking efficiency and comfort due to poor temperature control, inadequate lighting, and limited space.
What began as a project to relocate the kitchen and establish a seamless connection to the garden and outdoor space evolved into a comprehensive retrofit focused on enhancing energy efficiency, comfort, and the well-being of the occupants. The exterior underwent a transformation, starting with stripping it down, sealing it, and adding insulation before installing new solid wood siding.
This upgrade effectively enveloped the house like a cozy blanket, keeping it warm in winter and deflecting excess heat in the summer. With the integration of an air source heat pump, maintaining ideal indoor temperatures became a breeze.
The outcome is an extension flooded with natural light, offering breathtaking views and direct access to the garden. The home now stands as a model of efficiency and comfort, fulfilling the original vision of a space that truly connects its inhabitants with nature.
