From Seasonal Cottage to Four-Season Retreat

Buckhorn, Ontario | Cottage Renovation & Addition

Originally built in 1958, this charming Buckhorn cottage underwent an extensive transformation from a traditional three-season getaway into a comfortable, functional four-season retreat.

With retirement allowing the homeowners to spend more time at the cottage, the goal was to create a space that offered the comforts of a year-round home while preserving the character and charm of cottage living.

One of the most significant aspects of the renovation involved lifting the existing cottage and replacing its original pier foundation with a new 4-foot insulated concrete form (ICF) crawlspace. This substantial structural upgrade provided a solid foundation while creating valuable space for storage and mechanical systems.

The renovation also focused on expanding the living area, improving the interior layout, and maximizing views of the surrounding waterfront. Additional bedrooms, improved kitchen functionality, laundry facilities, and increased storage were all part of creating a more practical and comfortable space.

Exterior improvements, including updated windows, siding, and expanded outdoor living areas, further enhanced the cottage's appearance and connection to its natural surroundings.

The result was a thoughtfully transformed cottage designed for year-round enjoyment, combining modern functionality with the relaxed atmosphere and timeless appeal of a Kawartha Lakes retreat.
